When Jesus calls us into covenant, He’s not calling us just to give us stuff; There’s Something Deeper-an underline purpose at hand
I love listening to podcasts; especially ones from Judah Smith; he’s truly a phenomenal man of God and (as corny as this sounds) he changes so much inside of me each time I listen to him. Really, the talent that God has placed in him is incredible, I’m so happy that he’s using it all for His glory-teaches me and inspires me to live out my life wholly and completely for God.
Anyway, there was this one message that truly captured me-titled, ‘Make Me’. I caught a lot from the message, so here are a couple of points. I really don’t want to butcher it by planting in my own words, so I’m leaving it in point form. Read it, Understand it. Digest it, and Act On It.
Matthew 4:18-20
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen."Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." At once they left their nets and followed him.
Jesus Is Here To Shape Us
Before God has any aspirations of giving us anything, He has a preordained plan to shape us
If you don’t want to be made, then don’t follow
When Jesus said the word 'Will'--> no discussion, no debate—either you follow and get made, or you stay behind...
Luke 15: 11-20
1Jesus continued: "There was a man who had two sons. 1The younger one said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So he divided his property between them.
"Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
"When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.'So he got up and went to his father.
We will never be able to do what God is asking us to do as long as you have the ‘give me’ attitude["Father give me my share of the estate"]
We should be saying, "I’m not here for what you can just give me, I’m Here For What You Can Make Me,”
The context of discipleship is not ‘give me’, it’s ‘make me’
Discipleship is not the choice of the leader, it’s the choice of the follower
Give Me--> Add Make Me--> Abide
This is not a democracy, this is a dictatorship called the Kingdom of God
God will Give You once you say-“Make Me”
Many a time God does not give us a burden because we don’t have the attitude to carry it
I think sometimes people just don’t like being slapped on the face, cause it hurts. But, most times, a slap on the face is the one thing we’re all missing in our lives. I learnt a lot from this message, and I hope you did too.
